2011 Home Goals

The first month of the new year is already almost halfway gone! How can that be?
Our home was majorly improved since it became a home for a married couple instead of bachelor's pad for my husband, but there is still a lot to do for not only us, but the new little boy that will be in this home.

1) The nursery

So here is the nursery. In progress.
Picture this room with nasty, yellowed wallpaper. My dad sheetrocked over it. Thank goodness.
My husband is almost finished taping and mudding it, then we will texture and paint.

Here is the carpet. It has seen better days. Maybe when it was actually popular. There are hardwood floors underneath this stuff. That is correct, hardwood floors. The carpet is getting ripped up and the hardwood is being refinished.

Then we will:
  • Find dresser to refinish for the room
  • Paint the glider rocker and reupholster the cushions
  • Make crib bedding (bumper and skirt)
  • Purchase a white rug for the middle of the room
  • Make window treatments, most likely a valance for the one window.
  • Decorate for our little boy.
There is a lot to do in this room, but it will get done.

 Our Bedroom

Our bedroom is tiny. It is actually the smallest of the three bedrooms in our house. It is made even smaller with two bulky dressers and our queen size bed. But before we can work on the cramped part of the bedroom. It also has to be sheetrocked, mudded, textured, painted, and have hardwood floors refinished.

I don't have a good photo of our bedroom. I thought I had one, but it obviously is lost on my computer somewhere.

The Kitchen

We have spent a lot of time redoing this kitchen, but there is still more to do.

I've done some decorating since these pictures AND a new washer and dryer. Whoo hoo! :)

Here is what I want to do:

  • Burlap curtains to cover up the laundry area.
  • Get rid of the ugly carpet and tile.
  • Redo the chairs and the table legs.
There is a lot I'd love to do with this kitchen to improve it, but I don't think that it will happen this year.

The Living Room

Once again, these are older photos. Not horribly old as we have already done so much in this room. It was all plaster and wallpaper. It was sheetrocked, textured, and we painted. Much, much better.

However, here are my goals:
  • Pulling up the carpet and refinishing the hardwood floors underneath.
  • Curtains for the windows. (I finally ordered some and they should be here next week!)
  • Find and refinish some sort of sofa table or longer table with a couple shelves underneath for the brown wall between the couch and the window seat area. The window seat is finished, as seen in before blogs, but I do not have a recent photo of the entire living room with the window seat.
  • Decorate, decorate, decorate! This space needs a homey touch. I am slowly putting things on the wall, but need some more blue and green for this room.
  • Find a rug for this space when the hardwood floors are finished.

There are tons that I would love to do with this house. Especially on the outside. But since we rent from family, we have to be careful of choosing where we want to spend money. We are wanting to repaint the house because the outside is really in terrible shape. Nothing has been done to this house since we began this fall in 20+ years. It needs some love and care. Even the porch is falling apart. Not good for a little baby on the way. So needless to say, this Spring we also have a lot of outdoor projects we'd love to do. Hopefully we'll be able to afford to make this house more of our home then just a rental house on the street.
What are your home goals for 2011?
