The Big 2-5!

Today is my birthday.

I've always loved this day.

November is one of my favorite months. The trees are absolutely gorgeous in glorious color, the temperature is perfect for jeans, boots and sweaters, the time of year brings about pumpkin flavored goodness at Starbucks, my babies wake up with bed head in footed pajamas and eating many different baked goods is acceptable because of the season.

Since becoming a mom my birthday has meant more but also meant less. I focus on the blessings that I've had in the years I've been on this earth, but the focus on me is less important.

In my home my sister and I's birthday were a big deal. My daddy bought us flowers. My mom always fixed our favorite meal and our favorite dessert. Gifts were given. We were celebrated fully.

Each birthday becomes more exciting because your are growing older. Thirteen. Sixteen. Eighteen.

This year I turn 25.

I feel older and yet so young in what God has blessed me with in these short 25 years.

To celebrate the big 2-5 I want to write out 25 things that I am thankful for. I've always believed in focusing on the good things in our life. God wins when we learn to thank Him for the blessings that He gives us. When we focus on the negative in our life, darkness and bitterness begin to seep in and who wants to be bitter and dark at any age? Not a great way to shine His light either!

So here we go...

25 things I am so thankful for!

1- I am thankful for my friends that God has given to me. I've had friends come and go in my life. All began as acquaintances but some have made a huge impact on my heart and my life. I have special friends from high school who I still consider my best friends even though life has spread us apart in distance. They are women who know my heart and believe in me. They have stood up for me and continue to love me even when weeks go by where we haven't talked. I also have my mommy friends whom I love dearly. Motherhood isn't an easy journey and grace is something that needs to be given daily. I can text, call or meet up with some of my mommy friends and there is no pressure. Society puts so much pressure on us to act and be a certain way. I sure love my friends who are grounded and understand this time of life.

2- I am thankful for the coffee bean. Some good stuff has come from that! Especially the Starbucks Frappachino. Mmmmmm.

3- I am thankful for my parents. They are seriously the best. They've always been real, honest and beautiful. They are full of faith and love. I haven't always listened to them. Oh the teenage mentality! However, they've always wanted the very best for me and did their best to give me all they could with the love of Jesus.

4- I am thankful for my gift of writing. I love to write and to share. It destresses me. It teaches me. It helps me grow. It helps me see God in my life and hear God as the words pour from my heart to my fingertips to type.

5- I am thankful for my Bachelor's degree in Psychology. Being able to graduate while being a stay at home mom was huge for me. I took a gigantic step towards my goal of becoming a school counselor.

6- I am thankful for my husband. He is such a wonderful man! I could go on and on about him all day long, but today I will spare you all those details. I am truly so lucky to call him mine.

7- I am thankful for chocolate. Chocolate anything really.

8- I am thankful for the life that is growing inside of me. God has blessed us with another sweet baby and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to mother another child. When we figured out we were pregnant we laughed with pure joy. This baby was not planned, but is already just as loved! We know that God has the best plans for us and they include this sweet life whom I have the privilege of carrying for the next 7 months or so. We are so excited for this life!

9- I am thankful for opportunity to be a stay at home mom. It's stressful at times and many days I crave adult conversation, but I know that I am doing God's work through parenting my children. I grow daily and God has taught me so many lessons from being a mother. I love being able to experience most everything with my kids.

10- I am thankful for our home. We love our house. I know that one day when we decide to build or buy something bigger to better fit 3 teenage kids I will probably cry when we leave. We've put a lot of work and love into this house so that it truly is our home.

11- I am thankful for my sister. We haven't always gotten along or been the best of friends, but we've always had each other's backs. She's a support system that I can count on.

12- I am thankful for the comfort that I find in God's grace and that I am covered by it.

13- I am thankful for the title of "mommy".

14- I am thankful for music. I love music. I am one of those people that has a hard time in silence. I've got to have some sort of noise going on in the house for me to be productive. Music inspires me and motivates me.

15- I am thankful for disposable diapers. Truly. When you are a mom of more than one kid in a diaper at a time, you just because super thankful for those things you can toss out the door into the trash can.

16- I am thankful for a beautiful family that I married into. You know the old saying that you don't just marry the man, you marry the family? It's so true. I was incredibly blessed when I married Justin. Not only did I marry an amazing man but his family is pretty amazing too. They have embraced me in love and are just wonderful.

17- I am thankful for forgiveness and that I am able to give and receive it. Forgiving isn't always easy especially when someone has done your wrong and they do not ask for it. However forgiveness is freeing and forgiveness is love. It's truly a beautiful thing.

18- I am thankful for warmth. I freeze during the fall and winter months. I never feel like I can get warm enough. I may run the space heater too high or my husband may come home to me bundled up in layers plus hiding under a blanket, but I'm thankful that I have the resources for the warmth.

19- I am thankful for the connections that I've been able to keep or make through Facebook. I'm not always a huge fan of the internet (Oh..let me count the ways!) but I do love that I am able to stay in contact with so many people.

20- I am thankful for the Bear's Den and the mozzarella sticks that I have consumed and have yet to consume during this pregnancy. I think. I have. A problem. :)

21- I am thankful for my past, my present and my future knowing that God holds it all. Life is not easy and I have never believed it was meant to be easy. Our faithfulness and trust in God however makes it enjoyable and worthwhile. Those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing. Psalm 34:10

22- I am thankful for my creativity. God gives us all different gifts and even the gift of creativity differs from person to person. It makes us who we are and makes us unique. I do not always have the time to use my gift of creativity but I sure do love it when I find those fleeting free moments!

23- I am thankful for mistakes and the opportunity to learn from them. Whether they've been big or small, been painful or barely bruising...we are all human and are meant to learn from our own mistakes.

24- I am thankful for TJMaxx. Yep. I am thankful for a store because it is quite simply the best.

25- I am thankful for love. All love. God's love. My husband's love. My children's love. A stranger's love for others. My love for so much whether it is a person, an idea, a cause or an object. My family's love. The world needs more love and less hate. More sincerity and less fakeness. More kindness and less bullying. More honesty and less lying. More smiling and less crying. More sympathy and less judgement. Fill the world with all things good!

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15

I'm going to be celebrating with my beautiful little family and hopefully if all goes right at my appointment today we will be hearing our baby's heartbeat! What a special birthday gift!
