Overcoming Obstacles

According to Merriam-Webster an obstacle is something that impedes progress or achievement. Obstacles can be mental, physical, emotional, educational, relational and pretty much anything that could act as something that gets in your way or shakes up your current situation.

I've seen friends and family overcome all kinds of obstacles. I've overcame my own obstacles. Actually, I could bet money that every single person I've ever come in contact with has had to overcome some sort of obstacle or several obstacles in their life.

The thing with obstacles is that sometimes they make us become judgmental.

They just don't understand...

Because of my situation...

If they don't stand by me now than they are not my true friend...

I have it so much worse than them...

Why do they seem to have it all together?...

And so forth.

Negative thoughts can fill our mind and make the obstacles that are already staring us down weaken us even more.

Maybe you fall down into a black pit because you have allowed negative thoughts to rule over you. Been there, done that. Those black pits are incredibly difficult to climb out of, but it's doable. It doesn't always feel like it is at the time, but you will look back later at that black pit and instead of seeing weakness, see something that eventually gave you strength.

You will believe that no one understands your situation. You will believe you are alone.

You are not.

What I have learned from my past experiences is that in many circumstances people truly do not know about the hardships you are facing because of an obstacle.

Like I said before, we have all faced obstacles and many times we all face obstacles at the same time. Everyone is busy dealing with their own obstacles and even though they may know that you are facing an obstacle they do not understand when you have fell into that black pit.

It's not your fault.

It's not their fault.

It's life.

Instead of accepting and understanding that others simply do not know that you are in a black pit of frustration, depression and darkness because of your obstacle, you blame them.

This does not help you overcome your obstacle.

You may think that when you overcome the current obstacle that you facing, you are done but you have unknowingly created more obstacles involving the people around you that you blamed.

Frustration.

Irritation.

Blame.

Judgement.

Bitterness.

It all has crept in. It all has been seeping through your heart and your soul to create obstacles with family, with friends, with your loved ones.

In your hard times, you have built walls.

Walls that you have to learn to overcome, because those walls are now your obstacles.

Hebrews 12:14 says Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

And Ephesians 4:32 says Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Seek peace.

Seek forgiveness.

Seek love for others so that you may be set free in Christ.

Overcoming obstacles should be an experience that gives you great strength and love in Christ. It should not bondage you with more obstacles. Overcome them all.
